Here are some fun interactive ideas to use with a Smart Board. I was inspired to come up with an idea to make calendar essentially a more hands-on time for young students.

  1. 1.The first is a fun way to take attendance.  Ask a question of the students each day which can be simple or related to the content for the day. The students will find their names and then move to the answer of their choice.

  1. 2.Calendar time can be fun using patterns! Have students write the date and pick the shape that would add to the correct pattern. The key to making this slide work is creating shapes at the bottom which are infinitely cloned. That way the shapes will duplicate but remain below.

  1. 3.The weather chart can serve as a bar graph that changes daily. Students are able to compare and contrast as well as gain understanding of certain terms. Such as; same as, less than, more than, equal.

  1. 4.Each day students are in school count the days! By counting the days students can manipulate with the units to create a deeper understanding of the base ten system.

  1. 5.The same kind of concept is used here as well. Students will learn the value of money and the base ten system. Students will also have a chance to learn different ways to create that amount as shown to the left. Fifty-one could be represented as two quarters and a penny or one quarter, two dimes, one nickel, and one penny. Is there any other way? Similar to the calendar, use the infinite cloning on each piece of coin and bill on the bottom.

  1. 6.The morning message is an interactive way for students to practice their reading and finding word wall/sight words. After reading the message as a class, students are encouraged to come up and circle words from their sight words.

  1. 7.Smart board has a great wallpaper that looks like notebook paper. Using this wallpaper can be helpful for the class to write stories together, practice letters, and poetry! Students and teacher together can create together for all to see. Just grab one of the Smart board markers and begin!

8. This idea was inspired by my early elementary placement. Often students use manipulatives to do this exact lesson with a partner. I thought by creating this page the teacher could ensure that each student is able to see the entire activity and work together to gain examples. Once again I infinitely cloned the pea and carrot so the students can use as many as they like without running out. Below to follow what is placed on the plate students would write an equation. For example: 3 peas + 4 carrots = 7 total on my plate
