Information for Parents HOMEWORK: Do not expect large amounts of homework in science every night. I run an inquiry-based science class, meaning most learning is done through hands-on discovery situations. Most of our work in science requires materials not readily available at home, or guidance by the teacher. You can find homework for the day listed in the ‘Homework Calendar’ section, along with handouts you can print out at home when they are available.

GRADES & MISSING WORK: Grades are posted in class a minimum of once each week. Each student’s grade report is posted confidentially by student ID number, and shows them their current letter grade, percentage, and the score on every assignment turned in. Your student will see blank boxes for assignments they are missing. Using this system, your student has the opportunity to check on their progress in class and be aware of any missing assignments at all times.

ABSENT & MISSING ASSIGNMENTS: Your student can check the website when they are absent to see what work was missed when they are absent. Frequently your student will have access to the assignment sheet from the internet, which can be printed out at home. If you student is absent and the assignment is not available on the internet, they can find that assignment when they return to school on the ‘Missing & Absent Wall’. Here they will find a calendar or assignments with corresponding folders for each day of the week. Absent on Wednesday? When they come to school, all handouts can be found in the Wednesday folder. It is the student’s responsibility to get all missing work from this area.

Evergreen Middle School’s policy on absent work is 1 extra day for each day a student is absent. If your student is absent for more than 2 days, contact the teachers by email to get any instructions not available on the internet which can be picked up in the main office.
Going out of town? Please contact the main office at (503)844-1400 so that a Prearranged Absence can be noted, and your student can get work that will be missed before the absence begins.
