The Pacific University College of Education annually hosts the Forest Grove Childrens Fair to coincide with The Week of the Young Child. This Week is annually designated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children in order to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families, and to support early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. In 2010 the Week of the Young Child will be April 18 -24. The Pacific University Childrens Fair will be held on April 17th and is planned as a collection of kick-off activities in celebration of children.
The mission of the Childrens Fair is to bring families with young children together with organizations who provide services for young children, in a celebration of community, childhood and the spirit of learning. The kickoff for the fair will be a parade for children and their families that will work its way to the Pacific University Physical Activity Center Fieldhouse. The Childrens Fair is an entirely free event that will take place in the Pacific University Physical Activity Center on a Saturday in April (in 2010 it will be on April 17th) from 10:00 - 1:00. Pre-parade festivities begin at 9am with games, bubbles, chalk-art and dancing at the Early Learning Community school in the front of the New University Education Building, Berglund Hall on the corner of Pacific and Cedar. All are invited to participate in the parade proceeding at 10 am to the Pacific Athletic Center where the fair will take place until 1 pm. The Children's Fair offers a day of creating, exploring, dancing, silliness and serious fun at booths sponsored by local organizations including preschools, child care providers, extra curricular activity providers (such as dance, gymnastics, art and music) child safety organizations, etc. Everything is FREE thanks to the participating organizations and the generous sponsorships, particularly the ongoing support of the Forest Grove Rotary, and the ELC at Pacific University. |
