National Educational Technology Standards (NETS)
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) is the leading organization for educational technology professionals. It sponsors the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC). It also publishes an excellent practitioner journal about using technology in the classroom--Learning and Leading with Technology (L&L). The Northwest Council for Computers in Education (NCCE) is a regional affiliate of ISTE. They sponsor an excellent regional technology conference that rotates between Seattle (2008), Portland (2009), and Spokane (2010).

ISTE has established National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for students, teachers, and administrators. This document could be a significant resource for your to use in your district as it not only addresses what students, teachers, and administrators need to be able to do with technology, but also the essential conditions for using technology effectively in classrooms. It includes exemplars of these standards in PK-12 classrooms.

  • NETS•T--National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers
  • NETS•A--National Educational Technology Standards for Administrators

NETS•S Assignment
Read the NETS•S for Students (2007 Standards) including the sections on the conditions, profiles, and implementation of these standards. Come to class prepared to discuss an example of an implementation of technology that meets the NETS•S. We are interested in how you begin to apply these standards as you look at various implementations of technology.
