Here is a photo of Ewan (the spider expert) making a web made out of yarn. This is an orb web that I made. I learned that it is hard to make a web. I am glueing it to hold it in place. After I got it finished a spider found my web and we took photos of it.
Making Silk
Types of Webs
Making Silk
Spider silk is incredibly strong fiber. We don’t know how they make silk. It is spun in their abdomen by their silk spigot. Spiders use their silk to make webs. Once an insect flies into a web it gets stuck. The spider wraps it with silk so it cannot escape. Animals get stuck in the web and their tooth goes into them and the venom turns their insides all liquid and the spider can suck it out. When the venom goes into them the spider wraps the animal with silk. The spider uses its feet to wrap it around with its silk. The animal still moves. Here is a video of a big spider eating a fly.
sometimes spiders wrap silk around an object then walk away from it so it pulls the silk out.
