CALIFORNIA
The Golden State

STATE CAPITOL: SACRAMENTO

STATE POPULATION: 33,871,648

1) Write the state population in written form.  (ex.

California is the second largest state in the United States.  The largest is Alaska.  It is also the most populated states in America.

Along with many people and lots of land, it also has many forests.  On our way south Anna and I went through the windy roads of the Redwood Forest.

Where we discovered that the trees were so LARGE my car could drive right through it!
The redwoods are the largest living organisms in the world!
Read more about the Redwood Forest.

We also made our first barder in the California.  We traded our Palm tree at a campsite on the coast of California.

1) Think about what you might have while camping.   What would you trade for a fabulous palmtree?

Here I go....
    a great bargain for....

Kindling!
Now we could start a fire while camping!

We have now made our first bargain, onward to the big city of San Fransisco home of the:
Golden Gate Bridge!
This bridge is the gateway between the San Fransisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
After visiting the Pier where we saw seals and fish shops, and rode on the trolley around the busy city we headed to East to Lake Tahoe.

The lake is half in California and half in Nevada.

2. Look at your map of America, if the is divided evenly in each state, how is it divided in half? Is it North and South or East to West.  Draw a picture of the lake divided in half.

We are at the North West side of the lake.

3. What state are we in?  What state are we looking accross the lake at?

Lakes can be made by a couple different ways.  There are man made lakes that are made when a damn blocks a river creating a lake.  Lakes can also be formed by snow run off from surrounding moutains.  Lake Tahoe is surrounded by the Sierra Nevada moutains.

4. How do you think Lake Tahoe was formed, by a damn blocking a stream or by mountain snow melt?  Why?

Lets venture over to the EAST side of the moutnain run off lake, to NEVADA.
