I. TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS.
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Education Technology Standards for Students)
B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
My Narrative:
Based on my completion of all the assignments in Education 537--Educational Technology, I believe that I have "demonstrated my introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology."  I now can design my own website and webquest using the program Nvu.  I also learned how to create a podcast with the program GarageBand and iTunes.  Lastly, I created a video of a lesson I planned using iMovie.  I have "demonstrated much growth in my technology knowledge and skills" this semester and feel much more "abreast of current and emerging technologies."

II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES.
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:
A. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
B. apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
E. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.
My Narrative:
This semester I have "designed two appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners."  The first exhibit is my webquest on Revolutionary War figures.  This webquest allows students to delve deep into a long-term project using the internet and other technologically-based strategies.  Throughout creating this webquest I had to "identify and locate technology resources (websites) and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability for young learners."  The second exhibit is my podcast on Dolores Huerta.  Students can use this podcast to learn about the social contributions of Dolores Huerta in a new, unique technologically-based format. It is also a jumping off point for the students to create their own podcast using the program GarageBand.  Both of these projects led me to "plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities and plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment."

III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM.
Teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:
A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
B. use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.
C. apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
D. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
My Narrative:
Throughout this semester I have had the opportunity to create two "technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards" in the form of a webquest and a math lesson that focused on using the program Geologo.  The webquest "uses technology to support learner-centered strategies" by allowing students to complete a project using the internet and other programs with very little direct instruction--the students are leading their own learning.  The Geologo activity "applied technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity" by allowing the students to create polygons using their knowledge of coordinate geometry.  Both activities allow me to "manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment."

IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:
A. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
My Narrative:
While I have not yet had the opportunity to "apply technology in assessing student learning," I am progressing toward this goal.  In my webquest, I have designed assessment techniques that use technology and applied several "methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity." In my future teaching I plan to use a variety of technological resources to assess my students and to research on best practices to "maximize student learning."

V. PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE.
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:
A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
B. continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
C. apply technology to increase productivity.
D. use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
My Narrative:
This semester I have "used technology to enhance my productivity and professional practice."  I have "used technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning" in the form of my ISTE Membership.  With access to all the resources on their website and the education journal "Learning and Leading," I have "continually evaluated and reflected on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning."  I have also "used technology to communicate with peers, parents, and the larger community" by creating my website--allowing me the opportunity to communicate with the outer community my educational goals and background.  I also constantly use "technology to increase my own productivity."  I use Microsoft Word, Publisher, and the Internet to research and create most of my lessons.

VI. SOCIAL, ETHICAL, LEGAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES.
Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:
A. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
B. apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
C. identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity
D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.
E. facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.
My Narrative:
Throughout this semester I have "modeled legal and ethical practice related to technology use" in all of my projects.  In my podcast and my webquest I referenced all of the information I found and used.  These projects also allowed me to "apply technology resources to enable learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities."  All of my students, no matter their background or educational level could particpate in my webquest.  Also, being a member of ISTE, I work to "promote safe and healthy use of technology resources" and with all of my exhibits I try to "facillitate equitable access to technology resources for all students."

Final Reflections

As a final reflection, I feel that I have really learned a lot throughout this course.  I have worked extremely hard to complete all of these projects at a high level of quality.  I spent many hours working to make my website reflect my personality and background.  My webquest is a comprehensive unit that took a lot of planning and time to complete.  There was a lot of stress that occurred throughout my work on my podcast and Project TEAM video because of issues with the technology, but I worked through them and was successful in finishing both projects.  I attended all classes and always put forth my best effort.  Not only was I working toward the NETS Standards this semester, but I also achieved many of the intended course outcomes:

• demonstrate the ability to critically assess why, when, and how to use technology to support the learning and thinking process.
• demonstrate knowledge of equity, ethical, legal, and human issues of computing and technology use as they relate to society and model appropriate behaviors.
• display an increased understanding of the variety of instructional programs available for classroom use, as well as appropriate methods for their utilization.
• apply current instructional principles, research, and appropriate assessment practices to the use of computers and related technologies.
• explore, evaluate, and use computer/technology-based materials , including applications, teacher utilities, educational software and associated documentation.
• demonstrate knowledge of uses of computers for problem-solving, data collection, information management, communications, presentations, and decision making.
• increase the ability to formally evaluate instructional software.
• critically evaluate and utilize online sources or information.
• use Macintosh and Windows-based computers, digital cameras, scanners, ipods and other related technologies to support the instructional process.
• demonstrate increased skill in the use of hypermedia applications, electronic searches, multimedia, WWW construction, telecommunications, and other recent innovations in educational technology to support instruction.
• identify resources for staying current in applications of computing and related technologies in education.
• demonstrate professionalism in a commitment to trying new software and hardware, develop strategies for learning to use new technological tools, and show patience and persistence in the learning process
• demonstrate progress on meeting the NETS standards as a necessary but not sufficient indicator of technological competence

While I have not achieved every one of these outcomes and standards, I am progressing toward all of them and feel that I have learned an immense amount so far this year.  I know that I will continue to grow in my knowledge and application of technology throughout my career as a teacher.
