TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS.
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Education Technology Standards for Students)
B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
My Narrative:
Before I started the Masters in Teaching program at Pacific Universtiy, my only use for a computer was typing up papers and searching the internet. I wasn't very comfortable using computers for other uses and I was not confident in my technological skills. Through this technology course I gained confidence in my capabilites to learn new technologies and have learned about numerous uses for a computer besides using Microsoft Word and Safari. I have discovered new programs such as Inspiration, iMovie, Garage Band, Nvu, Graphic Converter, Google Earth, Adobe Go Live, iDVD, iTunes, and Quick Time Player. Besides these programs I have also become familiar with some technological devices such as a scanner, digital camera and hand held camcorder. With the help of these progams and devices I have created a website, webquest, iMovie and a podcast. I have only scratched the surface of these programs and through contined use I will expand my knowledge of them This course has also taught me the value of using technology in the classroom and the oppertunity I have to teach my students. To keep updated on new uses for technology I have become a member of ISTE, the International Society for Technology in Education. My hope is that I will continue to explore the world of technology through teaching it to my future students.

II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES.
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:
A. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
B. apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
E. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.
My Narrative:
I created a WebQuest titled Discover the 13 Original Colonies for use in my fifth grade classroom's social studies unit on the fifty states. The WebQuest is designed for students to use the internet to research the colonies. The webquest has links to good websites for information. I reviewed these sites before listing them. Students get to explore the internet for information learning valuable technological skills and also learn about the 13 original colonies. Technological skills and being able to locate and use valid resources on the internet are important skills for students to learn. The webquest helps students develop these skills. The WebqQuest format is a great way to introduce students to computers and the internet using valid resources in a organized way.

I also recorded an art lesson I taught to my buddy classrooms. I explained to them that I had a homework assignment to tape one of my lessons and then create an iMovie out of it. The kids were really excited about having the digital camera in the classroom and interested about how it worked. My students also asked questions about iMovie and I showed the program to some students and some of the basic components to the program. I hope to use both a digital camera and iMovie in future projects. Our fifth grade team has a set of camcorders for the team to use.

III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM.
Teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:
A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
B. use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.
C. apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
D. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
My Narrative:
My project TEAM assignment was a starting point to introduce students to the possibilites with iMovie. In my project TEAM movie I addressed arts content standards and it could easily lead to a introduction to iMovie which would address technology standards. Through my webquest I addressed technological content standards. Students are guided through this assignment using appropriate resources online. They can also be taught about what makes a good online resrource and be able to discover good websites on their own. The webquest is also easily adjusted to support diverse learning styles. The project is done in pairs so students are able to help out their fellow classmates. Not only does the webquest teach technology, but i t also includes a creative project which supports multiple kinds of intelligences and allows students to choose how to present the information.

IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:
A. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
My Narrative:
One of the assessments I have learned to use and create is the rubric format. I enjoy the rubric because it shows students exactly what they need to do to get a predetermined grade. My webquest includes a rubric which assess quality, creativity, my students' abilities to stay on task and the inclusion of all required information. The students are also assessed individually and as a group. A webite called Rubistar helped my to create this rubric. They have already made rubrics and an option to design your own rubric.

My webquest also allows me to see how well my students were able to find information online and to access good resources. This is graded in a section of my rubric for the assignment.

An issue in my fifth grade classroom was choosing healthy food for snack time. I used the internet to research good and healthy snack ideas and then wrote a note to my students and their partents about being responsible for bringing healthy snacks to school. Students were able to help me research and develop good recipes for snacks.

V. PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE.
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:
A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
B. continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
C. apply technology to increase productivity.
D. use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
My Narrative:

In one of my classes an assignment was to create a concept map of Educational Psychology. This program is great because it allows you to see your learning visually and lets you connect different lessons that have things in common. For the same reasons this program is great for students to use and can be a helpful way to begin the brainstorming process.

By creating this technology assessment I get to evaluate my progress towards reaching certain technological goals. As I continue to learn about technology I can continue to add to these pages as I work towards these goals.

My website can be used to communicate with my peers, collegues and community about student learning. I have links to some educational tools on my website such as the webwuest. This is also a good way to communicate to a wider audience.

VI. SOCIAL, ETHICAL, LEGAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES.
Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:
A. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
B. apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
C. identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity
D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.
E. facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.
My Narrative:
Before I would begin my webquest, I would have a discussion with my students about appropriate computer use. Another option is to have the technology teacher to come in and give a presentation. Along with this discussion, a talk about properly citing information and know ing where you accessed information would be appropriate. I would model this by always listing my resoures and letting studnets know where I'm getting information. This can be seen on my webquest as I had to give refernces for the images I used.

I want my students to be comfortable using computers and knowledgeable about the uses of a computer. I would support this by using computers frequently in my class. I would support all learners by allowing as much time as they needed for technological assignments and make sure the tech aid was also there to answer any questions I am not able to answer. Computers have so many ways to approach projects that it is a good resource for every students.

Final Reflections
I have only started to build my resources in technology. I have taken the first steps to discovering new progams and devices. I still have a lot a work to do to be able to have the confidence to teach what I have learned to my students. With all the resources provided, this is not a difficult task. Learning the amount we learned in a four month period did not give sufficient time to be proficent in all areas. All I need is a little more time to explore and learn.
