Reflecting on the Development of My Educational Technological Literacy
Contents:
TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS.
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Education Technology Standards for Students)
B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
My Narrative:
Before coming to Pacific I had the basic knowledge of computers and how to use them on the basic level. Since I have been at Pacific I have become more comfortable with the use of my computer. I am not afraid to try and figure things out for myself or try new things. I have also been introduced to new programs and applications that I think will enhance my teaching. Just in the technology class along I have been exposed to so much, but more importantly I know where to go to find the right type of information or program to use. I have learned how to create a great power point, was given the tools to put together my first website, and taught how I can bring technology into the classroom with something as simple as a webquest. The use of technology can enhance any learning environment . I would not say that I am proficient in the use of technology, but I am getting there. The technology world is always changing and growing and I think there will always be something to learn from it. I look forward to continuing to grow in the technology world and open my mind even more to the idea of having it in my classroom  on a regular basis.

II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES.
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:
A. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
B. apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
E. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.
My Narrative:
Designing a lesson that incorporated technology was a scary thought for me.  In the past I have  found myself getting frustrated with applications like Word, so I was leary about using Nvu. Once I got started making my first website I found myself having fun and learning how easy it was to create one!  I feel like, as a teacher, I'm confident enough that I could create lessons or even a Unit for my students to use in the classroom.  I was also able to create a WebQuest using this same program for my students to use during my Oregon Trail  work sample. I feel like the WebQuest I have currently is good, but I look forward to working on it over the next few months so that it is great and ready for use in April. With in the WebQuest I was able to help control my students use of the internet by reasearching appropriate search engines for students and limiting them to the list found in my WebQuest.
I think that it is important for students to learn to conduct reasearch on the internet due to our technologically advanced society.  My lesson  posed in  my WebQuest requires that students spend time in the computer lab conducting research  to find specific information.  I also felt that it was important that students conduct this research in pairs  with the idea that it would make this first time around a little easier.
Lastly, for my webquest and for my TEAM video I had to conduct research on my own before I let the students at it because I wanted to make sure that the information I was giving the students access to was appropriate for their use.

III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM.
Teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:
A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
B. use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.
C. apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
D. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
My Narrative:

When I was creating my WebQuest I had the notion that my students would have to go to the computer lab to do research on the internet to help them findmore information on their topic. The time in the computer lab will be monitored by myself. I plan I showing the students how to get to the internet and doing a run through in the classroom with a projector and my own computer. I learned about doing this in several of my classes this semester but really learned how to do it during my Learning comunities presentation. This is also where I learned that all projectors don't have the ability to project the same types of information. I would also like to create a website for my students to use when I have a classroom of my own.  I will include links to educational games, information for parents and students, and if the students are old enough I will include things like homework assignments, a place for feedback etc.

IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:
A. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
My Narrative:

I was able to create a rubric in my web quest for my students to see what my expectations are and  for other teachers to see what they should be expecting. In my placements I am currently using a grade book, but many of the teachers use their computers for grades and report cards. If this is an option at my future school I will more than likely use it. I have found that it is much easier to keep information on my computer than in piles of papers, this can get messy! I have done various research over the past  6 1/2 months and have used the computer to do most of it. I researched the internet, the online library, and used the computer to look for books. I found information on topics such as keeping students healthy, traveling the Oregon Trail, Parent involvement, Dyslexia in the classroom, and the management practices of William Glasser. I have not actually done any technological assesment with students, but I did come accross some great ideas for it during our exploring time in the computer lab. There are several games out there as well as ideas that cab used to assess students understanding of any subject. I look forward to learning more about this.

V. PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE.
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:
A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
B. continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
C. apply technology to increase productivity.
D. use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
My Narrative:

Currently I use my computer to communicate with my family and friends and I plan on using at as one of my means for communicating with the parents of my students as well. It is a quick and easy way to keep in touch and stay informed. I also feel that when it comes to planning and writing lessons it would be more beneficial to keep things on the computer. It makes it easier to update and change as the classroom changes as well as when it comes time to refenece a specific lesson.

I feel that technology is an ever changing world and that it requires continuous learning to keep up. I will keep my website up and probably create a new one once I get a job for my students and parents to use. I had the most fun with the website and I look forward to making another! I also created a power point for myself and my peers to use if they want to. The power point discusses the idea that we need to keep our students active and healthy and we can do this without taking away from "learning" time. I also helped create a movie for my Learning communities class on the subject of William Glasser. The movie was to inform my peers of the managem ent style of Glasser.

VI. SOCIAL, ETHICAL, LEGAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES.
Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:
A. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
B. apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
C. identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity
D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.
E. facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.
My Narrative:

I have not had the opportunty to model appropriate practices for my students yet, but I know that in the spring when I am teaching my WebQuest I will show my students how to be responsible when using the internet for research. After the class when we googled Martin Luther King Jr. my eyes were opened wide and now I know that sometimes the first isn't always the best! I will also give my student the power to use technology for research and learning. Currently my students play educational games on the computer daily typically in subjects that they are learning at that time, ie. math games during math time. I like the fact they get an opportunity to go back and play games because I think this makes them feel more comfortable with the computer. This is important because students are tested on the computer. I think that the more students are around technology the more they are going to learn from it.

Final Reflections

Over the last several weeks I have become so much more comfortable with using my computer. Before I used my computer for simple tasks like typing a paper, checking my email and chatting with friends. Now, I am confortable downloading files and programs, using applications like power point and excel, finding appropriate things to use on the web like research tools for my students and appropriate information to include in my teaching, and creating useful things like websites, movies, and lessons that incorporate technology. I feel like I have learned so much from this course. I found myself frustrated more times that I can count but I feel overall that it was a great challenge for me to face and one that I will be giving myself for a long time to come!
