INTRODUCTION
CooCoo! Hello Team Symbols! I'm Eddie the Eagle and I really, really need your help! I received a letter late last night that some third grade students in China were studying the United States and needed a little help. They have been trying to find more information on American National Symbols but haven't had any luck. Last night I spent many hours up in nest thinking, how I could help these third graders learn about American National Symbols? Finally, after many hours and a huge headache I came up with a great idea. Since you boys and girls have been studying American National Symbols for the past few weeks in class, I decided that you would be the ones to educate these Chinese third graders. I'm depending on you, I don't know what else to do. You will design a brochure detailing some of our symbols. After completing your brochures I will be sending the completed brochures to the third graders in China. We don't have very much time, so lets get started! Good luck with your hunt and GO TEAM SYMBOLS! TASK I will hand each of you a graphic organizer. You will begin by researching the following symbols: - Liberty Bell - Bald Eagle - Statue of Liberty - U.S. Flag - White House You will then use a graphic organizer to help collect and organize your information and pictures. For each symbol, you will need to include at least five facts and a picture of the symbol. You can either download a picture or drawer a picture. Once you complete the graphic organizer it will be your job to create a creative brochure to educate the Chinese students about the United States National Symbols. Your brochure will have six pages including a front cover. The front cover of your brochure should describe what your brochure's about (a title) and who created it. After the title page, each page of your brochure will detail one symbol. Each page should have a title for the symbol, a picture of the symbol and the five facts about the symbol. THE PROCESS You will be using a graphic organizer to help collect and organize your information and pictures. To accomplish this task, we will begin by researching the symbols. Use the following resources to find your facts about each symbol. To help you get started here are some helpful websites to help you get started. CONCLUSION Congratualtions Team Symbols! You all should be very proud of yourselves for a job well done. Not only have you broaden your knowledge of American National Symbols you have assisted fellow third graders become more knowledgeable about our symbols. Now you all return to your nests and wait for your next advantage. Thanks for your all your hard work and a job well done! CREDITS Thanks to Mrs. Sinapi at Hiteon Elementary for ideas. |
