The ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS•T) and Performance Indicators for Teachers
Effective teachers model and apply the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS•S) as they design, implement, and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; enrich professional practice; and provide positive models for students, colleagues, and the community. All teachers should meet the following standards and performance indicators. As a preservice teacher I have begun to:

1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers:
a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness
b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources
c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes
-
d.model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments
My Narrative:
Through my personal experiences and hands-on technology class, I am building an ever increasing knowledge base to pass on to my students. The implementation of technology will be a fun and critical part of a students education. With a continuing evolution in technology, I believe it is critical to demonstrate and properly teach students how to use and understand a variety of different technology.
To allow students to be competitive in our increasing global economy, students need to properly operate computers, ipods, etc. Students need the knowledge to use the various programs and applications that will let them communicate and surf the world wide web. Building a strong and versatile foundation will allow students to read, design, and develop professional web-based technology that will let them be active and safe members of our global communication system.

II. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments.
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers:
a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity
b. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress
c. customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources
d. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching
My Narrative:
I believe creating my Website and Webquest gave me a strong sense of what my students will go through when they start creating their own. I had never done this type of project in the past, but having done hands-on lessons, allowed me to see a variety of ways to set up technology lessons for my students. Combining conventional lessons with todays ever increasing use of technology will benefit students in our growing global society.
Knowing how to create and operate these new technological tools myself, will allow me to guide my students through the developing their own sites. From creating their own podcast to developing a classroom Website, I know these will be valuable skills to incorporate in my classroom lesson plans. Students will be able to create personalized works using the wide variety of web based tools. And now having done several projects of my own, I will introduce these ideas to my students to help them build a tool belt of items they can use to be successful students.

III. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning.
Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers:
a. demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations
b. collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation
c. communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats
d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning
My Narrative:
Having developed my own website, searched through my professors and mentors websites, I believe they are very important tools for a teachers to use. Being able to design and maintain a proper website helps a teacher relay important school information to students and family. A good classroom website will be a positive tool for students to feel they are connected to the class, parents can be more involved with their child, and everyone can be part of a bigger technological community.
Students are now able to use computers for research, reporting and being able to show individualism through various posting sites for their work. Teaching students how to develop and post their own podcasts, blogs and storyboards, will let them share their work with others. I feel confident in sharing the website and podcast I designed with my students and I will assist them in the development of a classroom site.

IV. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility.
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:
a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
b. address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies and providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
c. promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
d. develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools
My Narrative:
It is crucial to teach students the responsibilities of creating any web-based site. Teaching your students that anything posted on the web can be viewed by anyone with a web connection. This means that the poster of any information can and will be held accountable. As technology continues to grow around the world, many countries are agreeing on tougher laws for the world-wide-web. It’s not only important to teach students how to use these wonderful tools at their fingertips, it’s imperative to demonstrate and teach students to use these tools in a professional and responsible manner.
Projects like a podcast can help students build cultural awareness and are great research tools. The podcast I created allowed me to improve my technological skills, research a topic that increased my cultural awareness, and gave me pride in the work I have done. All these traits I will work to demonstrate and bestow to my students. I believe through the proper use of these tools, the technology students are exposed to today are a vital tool when used in a responsible manner.

V. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. Teachers:
a. participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning.
b. exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others.
c. evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning.
d. contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community.
My Narrative:
There is no doubt that the technology of today will continue to evolve. This makes it important to show your students the importance to keep learning. As a teacher, you have a duty to stay up to date with the changing ways of technology. It is impossible for students to be competitive participants in todays growing, global, technological society if they are unable to use the new technology. And as a teacher, you have the obligation to assure the best education possible to your students.
Becoming a member of Web communities like ISTE will help me improve and stay up to date with changes in technology. With a continuous relationship using a network of professional web-based communities, I will be able to keep current and give my students the education they deserve and expect. This networking will also help me improve myself and demonstrate, to your students, the importance of continuing to better yourself and never stop learning new things.

Final Reflections
I believe as a professional teacher it is your responsibility to keep current with changing technology. This will allow you to give your students the best opportunity to succeed in the technological world we live in. Being involved in ISTE and keeping up to date with information that now exists for teaching technology in the classroom will help students to get the competitive edge they need. I find it increasingly important to communicate with peers and share ideas so I can better myself, make my class more exciting, and get my students to be active participants.
I believe making my classroom technology friendly will pique the students interest and give them a sense of pride and ownership in their work. After creating my own Website, podcast, and WebQuest, I feel confident in teaching these new tools to my students. I am continuously talking to my peers and searching the web for new applications like storyboard, blogs, etc. And with an increasing amount of educational tools in my belt, I will be able to guide my students down the technological highway and assist them in being confident in the growing technology world.
