I am from
Houses on corners with huge yards to play
Summers full of blueberry picking and sweet homemade jam made from berries I helped pick
A worn, yellow blanket that would never leave my side
And too many stuffed animals, they could never quite fit on my bed

I am from
Family dinners, all sitting around the table
Piano lessons that I never practiced enough for
Games of P-I-G and H-O-R-S-E out in the drive way
And me loosing every time

I am from
Tender pot roast and seasoned potatoes,
Rich, creamy Doppa and dark, warm rye bread,
Hot sauerkraut and corned beef with cabbage
And sweet rice pudding every Christmas

I am from
Extra cheese in my mac-n-cheese
Summer bar-be-ques with the family
Easter Brunches
And hot chocolate with extra marshmallows

I am from
Lacey dog who loves to cuddle
Pom-poms and cheerleading skirts
Purple and pink leotards, ice skates and tap shoes
And a dusty softball glove so worn and soft it melts in my hand

I am from
A garden filled with tomato plants and blueberry bushes
And one lone stalk of rhubarb
A red and blue swing set, sandbox
And tangled jump ropes

I am from
Big wheels and training wheels
Roller blades complete with elbow, knee and wrist pads, as well as a helmet
A big kid bike
And the stop sign on the corner that was always base

I am from
The freshly cut grass my dad kept so green
That cushioned my falls from handstands and cartwheels
And was the stage for plays, Barbie fun
And make-believe games

I am from
“Don't count your chickens before they hatch”
“If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all”
“That's not very lady-like”
And “GO DUCKS!”

I am from chicken-in-a-biscuit crackers
Road trips to California or Spokane, always knowing we would get lost along the way
Disney movies, Ramblin' Rod
And Saturday morning cartoons

I am from
Sleepovers and prank calling with friends
“Birthday Bob” - my karaoke'ing Grandpa
Garage sales and coupons
Sales and half-offs

I am from
Dixie cups and M&Ms at every birthday
Pickles wrapped in foil in my lunch when it was dad's turn
And Malt-O-Meal for breakfast
Because I hated Cream of Wheat

I am from
The teasing my twin brother did
Because he knew how to push my buttons
And the nickname “cry baby”
Because it's what I did

I am from
My friends telling me I have “grown up taste”
Because I'll try anything
And bed time stories
Even in middle school

I am from
The University of Oregon
The best friends I made
The wonderful experiences I had
And a broken heart that changed my world

I am from
Road trips with friends
Laughing until I cry
Ghiradelli chocolate milkshakes
And Starbucks at Christmas

I am from
Overflowing scrapbooks filled with pictures, awards, letters
And other memorabilia
Shabby shoeboxes filled with every birthday, Easter, and Christmas card ever received
And bulletin boards covered with trinkets I will never throw away

I am from
Picture frames that tell hundreds of stories
Our smiling faces, our laughter and our friendship
The attic where my doll house and kitchen set are, my Troll house and Baby Anna,
My horses and fairy tale books, my dress up clothes
And my childhood imagination

I am from
My family and friends
The time spent together
The experiences I've had
The places I've been
And the memories to come
