A WebQuest on “Getting Jiggy Wit” The Decades
Introduction:
You have probably heard of the ‘Whip and Nae Nae’ or ‘Hit the Quan’, but have you heard of the ‘Macarena’ or ‘Electric Slide’? Those are classic dances from the 90‘s that are great party starters...
Now your school is having a school dance, and needs YOUR help!
The theme is “decades”. But everyone know how to ‘Hit the Quan’ and ‘Nae Nae’, so let’s explore some other decades!
Here are some examples of YouTube artists who’ve explored music through the decades.
The Task:
Define and compare and contrast a decade, century, and millennium a triple venn diagram like the one pictured to the right in a GoogleDraw document.
THEN
Create a video of how they would dress or dance using the music
during this period.
OR
Create a flyer advertising for the dance using fashion, dance, and
the type of music that will be provided.
OR
Learn a dance/song from this period and be prepared to teach the class your new dance/song along with the types of clothes worn and music played.
OR
Your choice.
(Each project must have the 1. Fashion 2. Dance (at least one) 3. Music type/ songs of that period)
The Process:
1.Using a dictionary, define and compare and contrast a decade, century, and millennium a triple venn diagram like the one pictured to the right in a GoogleDraw document or on paper. What are similar about the terms, how do they differ, can you provide some examples of each?
2.Choose (or have assigned) a decade within the 2nd millennium, except the 90s (example located below).
3.Then research the type of music that was popular within a specific genera, the type of clothes they wore during this period related to music, the types of dances they did during this period using the provided links below. (Take notes as needed)
4.Create your own advertisement for the school dance using a flyer, video, dance, or other project that can show the fashion, dance, and music of that specific decade.
5.Give credit to the name of the dance, name of the fashion clothes or at least a description of what it looks like, and give credit to the songs you use such as the song title and artist.
6.Turn in electronically by emailing or sharing files with me (oshi7130@) or turn in a hardcopy to class or discuss a day that you would like to present your dance/ project with the class.
The Evaluation:
If it is group work, the individuals of the group will all share the same grade.

Conclusion:
This lesson is for you (students) to learn about different decades in a fun way! I want you to have fun in creating your project but stay on task while exploring websites. There is a lot of false information on the internet that can negatively impact your project. Overall, learn the differences of millennium, century, and decade and be able to explain differences between them.
If everyone chooses a different decade, we can go back in time while we explore music and dances.
I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU ALL CAN CREATE!
