Animals of the World

Curriculum Standards

This particular lesson addresses the Beaverton School District Benchmarks in the following manner:

  1. * 2nd grade Geography: Students should be able to, “Explain how the physical environments in other parts of the world are similar and different”

  2. *  3rd grade Geography:

3rd grade Geography: Students should be able to “explain how the physical environment affects people’s lives”

There were also several other skills which were encouraged during this lesson.  The children were encouraged to act as researchers by searching for information about the animals.  They also did this by working as a team, thus practicing the idea of teamwork.  The students need to learn how to work in teams cooperatively, which will be difficult for some, but is necessary for the children to grow as learners.  Many of the children will have to collaborate their ideas in order to come out with their final piece of work.  The not so obvious ideas behind this project are to allow students to: conduct research, work as a group, create projects collaboratively, and to use creative thinking to create an artistic representation of their work.
