TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS.
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Education Technology Standards for Students)
B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
My Narrative: Now that I have studied technology at Pacific Univerisity, I feel that I am more confident in my computer skill than I have been in the past.  I have demonstrated introductory knowledge, skills and understanding of concepts related to technology by using word processing programs and multimedia programs.  I have learned to use many types of technology, including computers, different types of software, and digital video cameras.  The most important part of this class for me was that I have been able to explore different computer programs, software and technological devices.  I have figured out how to use the web design programs Adobe GoLive and Composer.  I own a Mac laptop and am excited to finally be able to use the iMovie, iDvd, and powerpoint programs on it.  I was familiar with how to use a digital video camera before this class but now I am more competent in the other functions of the device.  I am now proficient at web design, movie editing and various other forms of technology.  I subscribe to ISTE's Learning and Leading magazine and have attended an educational technology conference.  I plan to continue searching for new resources involving technology and using those resources to expand my knowledge on the subject.

II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES.
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:
A. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
B. apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
E. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.
My Narrative: I have demonstrated how to plan and design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities by designing an original webquest about Washington D.C. for third grade students. I researched websites to find pages that are interesting, academically accurate and developmentally appropriate to construct my webquest. I chose to become familiar with GoLive and Composer because I feel that it is important to be an "expert" on programs that I will be using in the future. I feel that technology adds to the learning experience of students by providing hands-on and interactive resources.

III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM.
Teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:
A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
B. use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.
C. apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
D. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
My Narrative: The webquest I constructed facilitates student learning by directing the use of the internet. The websites I chose are directly related to the content of the lesson and give students the opportunity to become more proficient at using the internet without straying from educational topics.  My webquest is completely student-centered and addresses the needs of many different learning styles.  My webquest is designed to promote cooperative learning and increase  student learning.  The activities push the students to do a little more independent partner work by providing procedures that must be followed to complete the assignment but giving students the room to choose their own aspects that will make each one different depending on the group.

IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:
A. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
My Narrative: My webquest incorporates a variety of assessment techniques. I have designed a rubric that will be used to assess the completion of the webquest. Within this rubric, there are a variety of modes of learning, including: historical accuracy, that the tour has logical locations, notecards are complete, quality of writing, and their overall itinerary.  I designed my webquest to address many different learning styles to ensure that all students would have success. The written element will give me concrete feedback on what the students have been working on.  When they share their tour with another group, they will be able to experience what someone else was able to find.  This activity helps to promote community and facilitates students success.

V. PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE.
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:
A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
B. continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
C. apply technology to increase productivity.
D. use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
My Narrative: The website that I have designed will be used as a tool to communicate with my students and their families.  I plan to have a website for my own classroom to give my students a sense of community and to allow their parents to be able to keep track of what we are learning in class.  Having a class website will give me the opportunity to add countless resources to assignments and allow students the freedom to explore subjects they are especially interested in.  I would like to make iMovies covering the topics that are learned in class to assure parents are able to know what is happening in our classroom.  I have become proficient in iMovie and I am now able to edit and manipulate images and sound.  I would like to use this knowledge to produce a yearly video of the class to show their growth throughout the year.  This will a way to inform their parents about what we have done in class over the course of the school year.  This way, parents who have to work or do not have time to visit our class, will be able to feel like they are a part of their child's academic year.

VI. SOCIAL, ETHICAL, LEGAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES.
Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:
A. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
B. apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
C. identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity
D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.
E. facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.
My Narrative: By incorporating technology into the classroom, students will have the opportunity to use unlimited resources to enhance their learning. Setting up a class website will allow students to learn outside of the classroom and feel like they are part of a class community. I have tried remain ethical while constructing my website and webquest. I cited websites that I used to construct my webquest to make sure that the appropriate organizations receive credit for the information I used. I also cited where I downloaded the graphic I used at the top of my webquest to ensure that the organization is recognized. I will be sure to spend some time and describe these ethical practices to my students. I will explain the safe and responsible ways to use technology. I plan on using a variety of technological resources in my classroom. I will decide and discuss with my co-workers which programs would be appropriate for a certain task, problem or assignment. Most importantly, I want to make sure that all students, even those who do not have access to computers at home, will receive the same exposure and opportunities to use technology while in school.

Final Reflections: This class has taught me a lot about technology. Before starting this class I new how to surf the web, and was able to find things I was looking for, but now I have the skills to quickly find information on things I need. I am more efficient at using the Internet and computers in general. I never thought I would be able to create a website or a webquest. Through the aide of this class I have completed both of these tasks. I am very proud of my accomplishments. I have found that technology can be very frustrating and it takes a long time to get things the way you want them. To set up a website with all the working links takes a very long time. There have been many times this term when I have had to start over with my work because of computers freezing or saving it to the wrong place. I hope to be able to use technology in my classroom when I have my own class. I feel it can be a very valuable tool for students to use and become familiar with the internet, the wave of the future.
