TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS.
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
|
A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Education Technology Standards for Students)
B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
|
My Narrative:
After taking an Educational Technology at Pacific University, I feel I am able to say I have a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. I have recently created a Movie, Podcast, Webquest and Website. All of these projects required the ability to use technology in different ways. After using a specific program to create one project, I find it easier to learn how to use a different program or technology tool. I can demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills and undertanding of concepts related to technology. I will stay abreast of current and emerging technologies by continuing to read the ISTE emails and magazines, which shares success stories of teachers implementing technology into the classroom and also keeps educators up-to-date on the latest tehnology trends. I will also continue to familiarize with, and use new technology as it becomes available.

II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES.
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:
|
A. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
B. apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
E. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.
|
My Narrative:
I have planned one lesson thus far that uses technology to support an effective learning environment. I have created a Webquest, which guides students to reseach the environmental and nutritionl needs of a White's Tree Frog. This Webquest allow students to familiarize themselves with Internet research, by using pre-determined references on the World Wide Web. When creating the Webquest, I ensured that the websites I directed my students towards, were accurate in information and "kid-friendly." I have also created a "kid page" on my website, that provides links to fun education sites for kids. On this page, I provide links to quality sites that help kids practice reading, or learn about science and social studies while playing games and having fun.

III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM.
Teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:
|
A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
B. use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.
C. apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
D. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
|
My Narrative:
I have not yet implemented any curriculum plans as a student teacher. While creating my Webquest, I did meet some of these goals as a pre-service teacher. My Webquest does require students to use higher order skills and creativity. The Webquest has students research the environmental and nutritional needs of a White's Tree Frog, using appropriate sites from the World Wide Web. Students are split into groups, and each group is responsible for researching a specific aspect of a White's Tree Frog's needs. These groups need to make a list of materials needed to adapt part of the classroom environment into an appropriate habitat for the White's Tree Frog. The students need to present their findings to the rest of the class. Each group will complete their project (which starts as a Webquest), by using the materials they decided on to create the aspects of the environmental and nutritional needs they were responsible for. The students start this project by using technology to research, and end by using a variety of technology (thermostats, timers, heaters, water testing kits) to complete their project.

IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:
|
A. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
|
My Narrative:
As a teacher, I will be able to apply technology to faciliate a variety of effectie assessment and evaluation strategies. To develop the rubric for my Webquest, I used Rubistar, an online tool for designing rubrics. A portion of the rubric was designed to evaluate students' appropriate use of technology resources by evaluating their ability to find answers to specific research questions posed by using the internet sources provided.

V. PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE.
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:
|
A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
B. continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
C. apply technology to increase productivity.
D. use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
|
My Narrative:
Throughout this semester, I have been using technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. I use the Internet to research many aspects of education, or to find education resources. I use technology to increase my own productivity, by means of word processing and collaborating with peers over email. I have not yet communicated with parents or the larger community using technology. However, I am now prepared to create a future classroom website, to communicate with parents and the community who are interested. I plan to have a classroom website, where students and myself continually update it, to showcase projects and report classroom news.

VI. SOCIAL, ETHICAL, LEGAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES.
Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:
|
A. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
B. apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
C. identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity
D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.
E. facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.
|
My Narrative:
I will be able to model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use. As I showed on my Teacher Page of my Webquest, I noted the internet sites that were used and gave credit to the photographer and organization that I got my images from. I chose to use the Smithsonian's free images resource, so I would not be using an image unethically. I will teach students to reference websites, just as they would a book, giving credit to it's writer(s). I will promote safe and healthy use of technology resources by monitoring and providing guidance when necessary. I will identify and use technology resoures that affirm diversity by providing students with links to internet resources that do so, and by having students create projects on people from all over the world. I will choose user-friendly programs, to help support all students, from all backgrounds.

Final Reflections
I feel I have made huge strides in becoming a teacher who will be able to promote the use of technology within the classroom. I have created many projects, using a variety of tools and programs. After creatig these projects, I feel confident in my ability to create lessons and activities for students to use a variety of tools and programs to create their own movies, podcasts or websites. As I continue to use technology, I will become more and more proficient in using new programs and devices. I enjoyed learning how to create a website and a movie. I feel students would also enjoy creating such projects. I feel confident and excited about the opportunity to guide students through creating projects of their own.
