The Egyptian museum is a rather square and open buliding filled with some of the most amazing artifacts of human history.
Here is the central room of the museum and the 5 meter statues at the end of the room provide a sense of perspective.
Even the corridors were filled with artifacts. Strangely, there was very little signage and it was not always clear what we were looking at.
This is the case inside which king Tut's sarcophagus was housed. Like most of these artifacts from his tomb, it was covered in gold.
This is Tut's gold sarcophagus. It was covered in glass in such a way that it could not be either viewed or photographed very well.
The prize piece of the collection, Tut's death mask, was central in the room and was quite well displayed.

A view of the back of this mask.
A view from the underside of the mask reveals some of its construction. This was an amazing artifact and to look into its eyes was to strip away countless centuries and to be in the presence of an enigmatic boy king.

Moving away from the Tut artifacts, the rest of these photos will remain unidentified because they were almost never identified in the museum.

Surprisingly few of the museum's mummies were on display.
This was a nice display of a wooden sarcohpagus and the mummy it housed.
The carvings on this sarcophagus (as were many) were detailed and told a story. Unfortunately, captions were not provided.

There were quite a few sarcophagi on display and here is one with some nice color hieroglyphics inside.
This museum was too rich in intriguing exhibits to possibly represent in pictures. These photos are intended simply to present a small sampling of the fare. Come visit, maybe in a couple of years after they have finished building the new museum.
