WELCOME to Dr. Camille Wainwright's website:
Dr. Wainwright has been a Professor of Science Education at Pacific
University in Oregon since 1992. Prior to coming to Pacific, she
taught for over 15 years at the high school, middle school and elementary school
levels in various school systems in the U.S. and in the Philippine
Islands. Most of her teaching was in chemistry and physics but
also biology, physical science, Earth science, physiology and elementary science. In addition,
she taught Human Physiology at Purdue University; at the University of
Minnesota, she taught Science Methods classes and a graduate course
in Educational Technology for science teachers.
Between supervision of Student Teachers at both Pacific University
and University of Minnesota, she has supervised over 250 students as
they earned their professional teaching licenses.
Dr. Wainwright has had extensive experience in managing grant projects,
including 8 Eisenhower-funded grants designed to strengthen the mathematics and
science content and pedagogy of elementary teachers. She was a
co-Director of the Oregon Collaborative for Excellence in the
Preparation of Teachers, an NSF-funded project which involved over 200
college faculty from the 34 higher education institutions in Oregon.
As a follow-up to that grant, Dr. Wainwright has been the PI and Director of OCEPT
II -- a grant which supports early career mathematics, science and
elementary teachers. She also leads the Outcomes Research Group,
a research project which has for 5 years conducted a longitidunal study
to determine the link between college faculty's reform-based teaching
strategies and the teaching strategies used by student teachers and
beginning teachers who had taken those college classes.
