First Questions to ask

In what ways can this software foster and support students in learning?

Will this software assist student learning in ways not currently present?

Is the software developmentally appropriate for your students?

What has been the experience of other teachers who have used this software?

How expensive is the software?

How old is this version of the software and what might anticipated upgrades cost?

Use Issues

Are there any potential problems associated with its use?

Is there district support for the software?

Will the software run on existing hardware?

Are peripheral devices necessary (or useful) to run this program?

What is the RAM required to run this program?

How much hard drive space is required to install the program and for saving program files?

Does it run from a CD, the server, the Web, or need to be installed on the hard drive?

If it needs to be installed, does it load from floppy discs, CDs, DVDs, a server install, or a Web download?

Will the software run on multiple platforms (Mac, PC)?

What is the learning curve; how easy will it be for you and your students to learn to use and to use this software?

Will my students be able to acquire this software to use at home (availability, cost and other issues)?
