Exhibits
- Examples that “show” what you did
- Lesson plans (open and show in word) or save
as graphic or as pdf.
- Student work samples – a must!
- Handouts
- Quizzes/puzzles/other assessments
- Digital images showing your
class in action
- Audio or video files can be more challenging
- Remember to save your work in "web-friendly" formats
inside the exhibits folder in your portfolio and then link to them on
this and other pages.
- Use the "save as webpage" or "save as html" feature
of many popular programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel,
AppleWorks, Inspiration, etc.
- Scan in paper documents using a scanner and save
the image as .jpeg (if it is a photo) or .gif (if it is a graphic).
Remember to scale down the size of the scanned image so that it is the
size you want viewed on the web. A typical full page should not require
more than 200-300 Kb of memory. Smaller is always better.
- Bring in digital photos, but again scale them to
the size you want displayed in your exhibit. About 150 Kb is a typical
size for a large photo.
- PDF files (or portable document files) created by
programs like Adobe Acrobat or on any OS X Macintosh computer are a
great way to bring in newletters and other formatted desktop publishing
documents in such a way that the formatting is preserved. These are
documents the user will often download in order to view.
- text files are also web-friendly--simple word
processed files with minimal formatting. Most word processors can save
a given files as text or .txt but a lot of formatting (like bold,
italics, columns, etc.) is lost. Text files are rather rare for student
exhibits.
