I
. Pre-Assessment and Analysis

Candidate assesses the knowledge and skills of students in relation to long-term content goals and district standards and determines the knowledge and skills each student needs to meet the goals and standards.

Insert here a written rationale that explains how you can meet these performance indicators. Provide evidence that you meet these indicators in the form of an exhibit. The exhibit you insert will be a link to some evidence that you have selected from your teaching practice that illustrates your competency in this area. You must digitize that exhibit and save it in a  web-friendly format and then link it to this page.

II. Planning and Design

Candidate designs instructional plans that incorporate knowledge of students’ developmental levels, interests, abilities, and learning accomplishments consistent with content goals and district standards.

III. Classroom Climate

Candidate establishes a classroom climate conducive to learning, e.g. positive classroom management, a safe and developmentally appropriate environment, efficient organization of time and materials, and effective transitions.

Establishing a healthy, energizing, and effecient classroom climate begins with a strong morning routine in which the students have clear expectations.  As students enter the classroom, I greet each student daily and collect homework folders if it is Monday.  They first check the job chart to see what responsibility they have for the day.  Next, they have a riddle or problem on the board to solve, make corrections on work from the day before that is on their desk, and pull out their chapter book to read.  We sing a song or two, say the pledge, and have a quick morning meeting to read the message board together to get a feel for what the day will unfold.

The classroom environment is warm, colorful, and inviting.  I have lamps for mood lighting, plants, and creative theme decorated library station in the classroom.  I use the bulletin boards for hands-on learing stations.  The  desk arrangement  changes according to how I want them to work.  I encourage cooperative learning and flexible grouping.  I also have a mailbox in the classroom for students to write notes with questions and concerns, or notes of thanks to share with the class and they can stay anonymous.  The classroom rules and expectations are posted and I verbally praise individuals who are actively demonstrating a 'hang 10' rule.  Every Friday or the last day of the week I gather them all around on the floor to honor  3-4 students that have gone out of their way to be a model citizen.  I write a special note specifically stating what I noticed them doing or saying and how much I appreciate them.  I read these out loud to everyone and these star students just beam!

I feel it is very helpful to have parent helpers for learning stations , making copies, sharing in the classroom, field trips, library helper, and events helpers.  I take the time to explain and model to the parents how to help at the learning stations.  It  takes organization to have things ready to copy, cut , or create for those parents who enjoy helping in this way.  Parents feel wanted and appreciated with small notes of thanks with a treat attached, as well as acknowledged in the newsletters.

Transitions are important to allow for the most educational time in the classroom.  After stations, I will say "give me 5" and I just slowly count down to zero.  They actively and quietly clean up the station they are at and return to their seats.  This usually takes about 3 minutes.  They have this routine perfected!  I also sing short chants or songs to single lining up or wrapping up what they are doing.  I also have a chime I ring to softly single it time to transition to the next content area.

IV. Implementing Instruction

Candidate implements instructional plans that employ knowledge of subject matter, use research-based educational practices that reflect how students learn, and are sensitive to individual differences.

Xl. Technology

Candidate evaluates student progress in learning, refines plans for instruction, and establishes alternative goals or environments for learning when necessary.

Effective teaching requires that I incorporate technology into the classroom in a few different ways.  Students will need to know how to use technology in the real world no matter which career they pursue.  It is a great tool to use in the classroom for communicating with parents and students, enriching curriculum, and for students grasping concepts in a concrete way.  It allows for more active involvement and creativity to occur within the classroom.   Technology  is a wonderful tool to meet the needs of students through differentiation according to their learning style, interest, and readiness with content, the process, and product.  It also can be used as a group project and presentation tool in which collaboration with classmates takes place .

Inspiration:  This tool is an outstanding and fun tool for students to express what they understand through concept maps, outlines, and pictures.  I used it to create a a concept map on a theme and I attached  links for the students to open and work on at learning stations.  It can also be posted as a web page for the parents to see what students are doing in class.  It allows for differentiation and I can use it as an assessment/planning tool.

Power point:  This tool is a clear and creative way for students to show what they have learned with the class in a professional manner and I can assess them through this mode of product. This can also be used as a visual tool while I teach a lesson.

Webquest: This tool allows me to create missions for an assignment and I can carefully choose internet sites for my students to explore on the topic.  This saves time for students and it enhances learning because it is so focused in on the important information and objectives.

Web page: This tool will be used to keep parents informed on the rules and expectations of students in the classroom, homework projects, field trip or other big events, resources to link to, photos of learning in progress (with permission), and a way for parents to contact me.
