Introduction

Hello students, I am Mr. Barraza and I just have some amazing news for all of you.  A new species of frog, Rana de flores has been discovered and well I will tell you an amazing surprise, the scientist who discovered it is taking it on tour around the United States has an exhibition.  I convienced the scientist to bring it by our school.  But their is a catch, we have to be frog experts by the time they come to show it at our school.  Below is a fun, challenging, and exciting way for us to begin.  Are we ready for this awesome opportunity??  I know I am, follow through the WebQuest and become a frog expert.

The Task

Alright researchers (students) we will start with finding out everything about frogs such as:

  • What frogs are here in the Pacific NorthWest;
  • What do they look like and sound like;
  • What do they eat;
  • The life cycle of a frog;
  • Predators of frogs;
  • Find the best frog jokes;
  • Finally, why are frogs important to our environment.

In order to compile and show all of our work to not only the scientist who are bringing the newly discovered frog but parents, students, and other researchers we will make a "All About N.W. Frogs" journal

The Process

Alright students, I will ask you to place yourselves in a group of 3 and choose a:

  • WebQuest operator, will be in charge of using the computer to find all the links below and exploring through all the materials.
  • Data recorder, will be in charge of writing all the information in to the journal pages
  • Journal designer, will be in charge of drawing all the pictures where needed and collecting all the pages in placing them in order.

Once you have chosen a job please have your journal handy and ready to start writing and drawing the information that you will find in the six steps below.  Good luck.

Below is a link to the worksheets you will need to complete the task.

Worksheets       Worksheet 2       Worksheet 3

Note:  In order to come back to this page please press the back page button.

1)  Frogs from the Northwest, pick one frog from the list, draw a picture of what the frog looks like in it's natural habitat.  The recorder should write at least 5 important facts about this frog and finally practice the sounds your frog makes (you will have to share this information so Practice, Practice, and Practice.)

Evaluation

The evaluation will be graded on the journal and each student will be able to not only show what they contributed to the journal but also give a short presentation to the classroom.  Students will share (with the teachers assistance) the components of their research to the class including the frog they chose, the noise it makes, drawings, and finally two jokes.  Students will get a combined grade.  Below is a template of how I will be grading
