Reflecting on the Development of My Educational Technological Literacy
The ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS•T) and Performance Indicators for Teachers

Effective teachers model and apply the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS•S) as they design, implement, and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; enrich professional practice; and provide positive models for students, colleagues, and the community. All teachers should meet the following standards and performance indicators. As a preservice teacher I have begun to:

1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers:
a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness
b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources
c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes
d. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments
My Narrative:

Throughout this course of technology I have learned an abundance of new technology skills. I look forward to using some of the skills I have learned in my own classroom. The creating of the WebQuest was much more time consuming than I had imagined; but the finished product gives insight to how it could potentially save time in the future. Allowing the students to use technology will learn and comprehend lots of information.

The creation of the Podcast was an adventure. I personally had never even seen a Podcast, let alone make one. The process itself was fun and the end product was educational. I was able to learn so much about the person we did the Podcast on and I can see how beneficial it could be for a student to use Podcasts to help them learn different topics; either by creating them or watching them. I look forward to being to use technology in the classroom, and encouraging my students to take an interest into what it can bring to the classroom.

II. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments.
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers:
a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity
b. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress
c. customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources
d. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology
standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching
My Narrative:
Through the use of Project TEAM I was able to record myself giving a lesson and then go back and reflect on my performance. This teaching tool was amazing, it  allowed me to critically look at  myself through someone else's eye. I could see how you could potentially use a camcorder in the classroom to record yourself or the students depending on what the learning objective was.

Another project that helped promote student learning was the website I am designing. Websites are nothing new, but to the use of the teachers it can be a relatively new concept. Through the use of a website there are endless possibilities to help develop digital-age learning experiences. Being able to connect the website to a multitude of sites is a way to encourage students to search the web in a productive manner.

III. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning.
Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers:
a. demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations
b. collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation
c. communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats
d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information
resources to support research and learning
My Narrative:
My Podcast is an effective way to show how a teacher can be innovative in a digital society. Creating a Podcast is like telling an informational story but the students have the accessibility to access it when ever they want. It is a great learning tool for students, as previously mentioned, and it's a great way to show your students how easy technology can be to create something so useful.

The creation of my website is another tool that exhibits my knowledge and skills toward working at becoming an innovative professional. The website not only will help my students understand information that I give but the parents as well. It allows contact between the parents, students, and myself creating an open communication system. This alone is very innovative with the digital society. I look forward to being able to use that tool on my website in the future.

IV. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility.
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:
a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
b. address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies and providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
c. promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
d. develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools
My Narrative:
Through the membership of ISTE I will be able to stay up-to-date with the latest technology advancements and opportunities that are available, especially those pertaining to teachers. ISTE also is a place I can go to find out how to avoid any legal matters and what the regulations are for certain issues. ISTE is very informational and will help me become a more responsible teacher when it comes to my virtual learning.

Through the use of Inspiration or Kidspiration you have the opportunity to organize all of your thoughts and ideas. Students would find Kispiration very easy to use and very helpful. Through Inspiration/Kidspiration you could set up plan that allows the students to understand different parts of the internet and how they would be able to access it. It could be used as a tool to help comprehension of the verbal instructions given. I found Inspiration to be a helpful when it came time to plan a project and I see the potential for the students.

V. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. Teachers:
a. participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning
b. exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community
building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others
c. evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning
d. contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community
My Narrative:
ISTE Membership also allows professional growth as a teacher. As mentioned before, it is a site that communicates what is going on in the technology world and conveys the most important information for teachers. ISTE keeps teachers in the know of what is out there and available, it 's a way for teacher's to connect their ideas and innovations.

The OTEN Conference is a place for professional growth. It is a conference that allows pre-service teachers to get a look at what other teacher's in the community are doing. I found the conference to be very informative and it was also nice that most of the teachers who presented at the conference were, somewhat, beginning teachers. This was important for me because it told me that I can do these things in my classroom right away, I don't need to be an experienced teacher to incorporate technology into the classroom.

Final Reflections

In completion of the technology course, my advancement and understanding of technology will continue to grow. I am just at the beginning stages of understanding all that is available. This class has given me the opportunity to start this journey through experimentation and implementation. The projects mentioned throughout the portfolio are only a few examples of the different uses for technology in the classroom that we had discussed over the term; and they are only at the beginning stages of what they could be. Overall, I have learned so much and am so proud of all the accomplishments that I have been able to achieve. I look forward to being able to share these tools and techniques with future colleagues and students. Even more so, I look forward to my continuation of learning about technology and the many ways that I will be able to implement them in my classroom!
