By completing this project you will • Learn many interesting facts about Australia • Learn the states and mainland territories of Australia • Learn to work together in groups • Learn to present work to your class The Process The project will begin with Miss Long dividing the class into seven different groups. Each group will be assigned one Australian state or mainland territory that they will be responsible for researching, creating a project and presenting the project the class. The states and territories are: • Western Australia • Northern Territory • South Australia • Queensland • New South Wales • Victoria • Tasmania There are five categories that I would like each group to research on your area and then present to the class. There will also be a conclusion to your project that will include reasons why I should visit your state or territory. For each category I would like the group to find a minimum of five facts to share. The five categories are • Facts you would like to share about the state or territory • Information on the people and culture of the region • History of the region • Description of the weather and climate for the region • Things to see or do in that region Your group will begin by dividing up tasks among your group members. Once you have decided on responsibilities you will want to make sure that you are getting your work done for the group. It is important that everyone in the group do their part. You will begin by completing the research for your region and finding information for each of the five categories. This research can be done using any resources you would like but you should also use the web resources that are listed below. Once the research has been completed and you have plenty of information for each category you will meet together as a group and decide what kind of presentation you would like to create. Make sure that everyone in the group has a role in the presentation. Your presentation may be done in a large variety of forms. You may want to write a song, make up a dance to share facts, write a story, create a powerpoint, write a poem. create a poster, make a travel video or write a speech. If you have another idea for a presentation ask Miss Long for permission to do that style before you begin. Make sure you practice your presentations if necessary, because they will be presented in class. Don't forget the conclusion that tells me why your group thinks Miss Long should visit your state or territory. Here is a list of web resources that you can use for your research of your state of territory. Remember that you can also go to the library and conduct research as well. Just ask Miss Long for a library and media pass. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/school/Australia/Ausmap.shtmlhttp://www.ga.gov.au/education/facts/index.htm http://www.convictcreations.com/culture/facts.htm#cit http://www.convictcreations.com/culture/facts.htm#ne http://www.wilmap.com.au/ausfacts.html http://www.dfat.gov.au/facts/intro.html http://www.aussie-info.com/identity/index.php http://www.nationalgeographic.com/travelaustralia/index.html?source=G1700 http://www.australianfauna.com/ https://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/as.html Western Australia - http://www.westernaustralia.com/en/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Australia http://www.csu.edu.au/australia/wa.html Northern Territory - http://www.travelnt.com/en/ http://www.about-australia.com/northern-territory/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Territory http://www.northernterritory.com/northernterritory/index.htm South Australia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Australia http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/sa/ http://www.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm http://www.csu.edu.au/australia/sa.html Queensland - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queensland http://www.csu.edu.au/australia/qld.html http://www.about-australia.com/about.htm New South Wales - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_Wales http://www.visitnsw.com.au/ http://www.csu.edu.au/australia/nsw.html Victoria - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_(Australia) http://www.visitvictoria.com/ http://www.csu.edu.au/australia/vic.html Tasmania - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmania http://www.csu.edu.au/australia/tas.html http://www.about-australia.com/tas.htm You will receive two scores for this project. Here is the guide that will be used to determine your score and your group's score for the project.
