II. Planning
and Design
Developing
a curriculum that is inclusive of all learners is an important factor
when designing instructional plans. All learners need adjustments to
meet their personal needs. When I have done a beginning of the year
assessment, I am able to modify the curriculum to meet individual needs.
I can do this in a variety of ways, through modified lesson plans,
modified goals, extra time or help, more visual cues and directions, or
individual student plans. With on going assessment I can see if these
modifications are benifical, and decide if more modification needs to
take place. Different learning levels exist in every classroom and
with the state benchmarks as teaching guides, curriculum can be designed
around those for individual needs.
In addition to individual needs, children have individual
interests. Monthly I change theme to address multiple interests. Along
with varying themes I incorporate multiple learning situations to
address different types of learners. Hands-on, oral, written, listening,
individual, group, and one-on-one activities to spark interest in all
learners.

III. Classroom
Climate
Classroom climate is a predictor of how well a class runs. I
continuously create a classroom environment that promotes learning. I
keep the class organized with set boundaries, schedule, and
transitions. I maintain this be going through and creating a list of
classroom rules with the students at the beginning of the year. Getting
the children involved in the planning and implementation of the
classroom rules gives them a sense of ownership as well as belonging to
the classroom. For transition we always have a five minute warning as
well as a posted daily schedule with pictures for children to refer to.
I
have varying groups to manage instruction at different times. One on
one time with projects and journal writing. Small groups with reading
instruction, and large groups for calender read-alouds and songs and
games. I use my aides and parent volunteers in small group times so all
children are able to get direct instruction and clarification when
needed.
The classroom is set up in large group areas and working /play areas that with the different group sizes in the learning areas. Everything is
labeled and organized in containers and bins with easy access when
needed.
