Egypt
June 10-18

Even though the political climate of the Middle East is tense in many places, Egypt appears to be beyond the frey for the moment, therefore we decided it was safe to pay a quick visit. We decided to stay in Giza which is right on the edge of Cairo. From this base we planned to visit the pyramids, the Egyptian museum, certain mosques and other cultural treasures

One quick tale before sending you off to the sands on the edge of the Saraha. Our flight from Singapore to Cairo had one scheduled stop where we were to drop off a few passengers and then be on our way: Dubai. When we reached this oasis of the United Arab Emirates it was already 2:30 in the morning (5:30 body time). A bit groggy and discheveled after 5 hours in the air, we were suddenly informed that every passenger would be required to disembark with their carryon baggage and then after clearing security, wait in the airport lounge for further instructions. Hmmm.

Surrounded by traditionally dressed (and well armed) Arabs right across the gulf of Oman from Iran, and in a sleep deprived state, we were a bit on edge. The airport looked georgous, clean and well equipped with coffee, food and huge video screens (even a large picture of Shrek). Still, this was an unexpected and a bit stressful stop. The picture on the right was taken (subtly) in the waiting area.
