Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers: A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Education Technology Standards for Students) B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - My Narrative: A. I entered into this course with a pretty solid technology knowledge base but I quickly realized that I still had many new technological applications to learn. I have completed several projects using new applications and new concepts showing my use of new technology to demonstrate my understanding and skills. I have learned several new programs to extend my technological skills such as NVU, Graphic Converter, many of the iLife suite programs, Keynote, Pages, and Adobe GoLive. B. I am currently a member of ISTE and receive two different journals including "Learning and Leading with Technology" and the "Journal of Research in Technology" to foster my further advancement of current and emerging technologies. I am also a subscriber to Edutopia magazine and their email newsletter contain several insertions on integrating technology into education. I attended the OTEN conference in the fall and found many new ideas for aiding my teaching with technology. Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers: A. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse need of learners. B. apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences. C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability. D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities. E. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - My Narrative: A. I have designed a webquest for second-grade students on the states and mainland territories to enhance student learning by having them complete an authentic performance task. B. I researched webquests and their implications for learning through webgarden. C. In my webquest for Australia I reviewed several websites from travel industries to make sure that they supported proper content and grade level learning. D. I am hoping to use this in a thematically integrated unit this Spring to extend student learning. E. I have planned the webquest around student groups and proper timing centered around computer lab use and task division for the research and project implementation. Exhibits: Webquest |
Teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers: A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards. B. use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students. C. apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity. D. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - My Narrative: A. I taught an expressive arts lesson to fourth-grade students that involved finding some examples to show to students of paintings from different museums. I have also designed a webquest on Australia for use during teaching a unit on Australia as a key country. I have also submitted an OTEN grant proposal in which I have students writing and delivering news reports from an event along the Oregon Trail. If approved, then my students will have an opportunity to analyze their work by viewing the video we will shoot for the completion of the newscast. B. My webquest is designed for many different talent and reading levels. By having the students work in groups to prepare their authentic performance tasks, they are using peer scaffolding and cooperative learning to achieve completion. C. The webquest is designed to see how well the students use the resources available to expand their own learning and thinking. Some of the information is housed in many different sites on the webquest and students will have to analyze the resources, synthesize their results and then create a presentation to share with their classmates. D. I have not yet had a chance to manage student learning because I have not yet implemented my webquest, but I am hoping that this will get students engaged in the lesson by allowing them to try something new in the technology lab at their school. Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers: A. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques. B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning. C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - My Narrative: A. I have asked students to use various technology programs to complete their performance tasks for their webquest to assess their learning throughout the project. I created a rubric that is included in the webquest lesson so that students can see the clear expectations for the project. I created a project TEAM video in which I taught an expressive arts lesson to my students and then was able to assess my teaching by watching the video and critiquing lesson points. B. I will use my video as a reflection piece for my learning throughout the MAT program by taping a lesson towards the end of the program to see how my teaching has improved which will in turn benefit my students learning. C. I have been introduced to a new website, Rubistar, that will allow me to build rubrics for student evaluation. By giving them clear published standards I can base my students scores upon, I can chart their progress using computer programs and determine what areas in which improvement is needed. Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers: A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. B. continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning. C. apply technology to increase productivity. D. use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - My Narrative: A. I will continue to look for new technological practices through ISTE, OTEN and GLEF as I feel that it is a beneficial tool in educating students and expanding resources and information availible to them. B. I have decided that I will continue to videotape selected lessons in my teaching career and review my performance on a regular basis. I will continue to look for new programs and applications of technology that are introduced that will benefit my students learning. C. I have designed a class brochure template that I can use for my class newsletter. I will use my videotaped lesson reviews to determine if my use of transitions and classroom strategies are the most effective for my students. D. By using the class brochure template, I can quickly provide a monthly update to parents for classroom goals and curriculum notices. My class website that I designed will be an excellent tool to help get parents involved in my classroom all year long. I hope to find an on-line teaching community in which to share lesson plans and find some new ideas to implement in my own classroom. Exhibits: Miss Long's Class Website Miss Long's Class Brochure |
Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers: A. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use. B. apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities. C. identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources. E. facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - My Narrative: A. It is the responsibility of every teacher to always model ethical behavior to students. By properly citing any references or tools that are used for any of my lesson plans or teaching tools I will show the importance of this to my students. Two projects in which I currently model this behavior are my webquest and recess brochure. B. I chose a variety of resources at varying levels for students to use in their participation in the webquest lesson. C. I will need to work on promoting diversity through the technology resources in my future lessons. D. By designing webquests for future lessons, I will be able to better manage students usage of the resources and therefore promote healthy use of technology. E. I have made it a goal to have access to computers in my own classroom in the future for my students to freely use. If I cannot have this provided by the school, then I will look to grants or other sources of funding in which I can make these resources available in my room. Exhibits: Webquest Recess Brochure |
