I Am From

Morrow Family Edition

I am from sewing and quilting
Needles and thread
Handmade quilts by relatives long dead

I am from “May the Road Rise to Meet you”
And “the wind be always at your back”
A warped, gold framed mirror that distorts my face

I am from a climbing tree, long gone
Unknown grandfathers
And sleeping with the light on

I am from Grandma Rosalie always next door
Porcupine meatballs
And dusty, antique violins

I am from the clunk of the brass knocker
River Ranger Ron
And “have a glass of milk”

I am from a cedar chest with tucked away treasures
Lawn chair waterpolo
Memories in haphazard boxes at the bottom of the stairs
