Quinn's Egypt
As we were getting our boarding passes we learned that we were going to stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Dubai was an ok welcome to the middle east. There were many men wearing Arab headdresses. We were in Dubai for about an hour and a half, then we boarded the same plane. So after an unexpected stop, we finally landed in Cairo. Then we drove to our hotel in Giza. We weren't planning to do anything today, but we just heard that the sphinx sound and light show was in English tonight, so we went to that. It was very interesting, it talked about the history of the sphinx and some about the pyramids. During the show the pyramids and the sphinx were illuminated. It was a nice way to start our time here. Tomorrow we go to the pyramids.
Today we went to the pyramids. It was amazing how big they were. We also got tickets to go inside the great pyramid. We also had guide, which gave us access to a lot of locked tombs. Some of which were closed off, so there was little damage, some even still had paint. I also rode a camel. After a while we went inside the pyramid, it was just as hot. There were cramped passages leading up to the burial chamber. The burial chamber was huge compared to the passages. There was also a large granite sarcophagus in the room. Then we went back down through the passages. We took a look at the other pyramids as well. We saw the sphinx again looked at the solar boat then left. I thought it was a pretty amazing day.
Today we went to the museum, it was all ancient Egyptian artifacts. I thought that the most amazing piece in the museum was king Tut's death mask. It was gold inlaid with lapis and other stones. His large and small sarcophagi were there as well, the small was also solid gold. There were many gold decorations and pieces of jewellery here. Also in the museum were many statues and sculptures. There were also rows of mummies, and sarcophagi, some of the sarcophagi had hieroglyphics on the inside. There was also a piece from around the time when upper and lower Egypt were united. Most museums would have an egyption artifact as their centerpiece, but this museum was filled with them. It was pretty cool to see so many things.
Today we went to the Khan E Kalili bazaar. The oldest bazaar in Egypt it was filled with shops selling everything from rugs to produce. We walked around, but did not buy anything, we were told not to, because there was a government owned bazaar which would have better prices. We soon left to go to the other bazaar. When we arrived we found the other bazaar was just a few stores, and there was not much to buy. Tomorrow we go to the Citadel.
Today we went to the Citadel. It is a fortified building with several mosques inside. We explored the Citadel going into the mosques, they were very nicely painted and decorated. They had dome-like roofs and ceilings. There were also pillars. There was one mosque we liked in particular at was small yet ornate.
Today was our last day in Egypt, We just hung out at the pool, it's huge. We leave Egypt today at 12:00 PM.
