Education Philosophy
I believe that education is the single most important portion of a person’s life. Education is opportunity, opportunity to explore the world, to grow, to develop a self-concept, to find and develop passions and to understand the world. An education should not be exclusive to academics; but include respect, acceptance, responsibility, creativity and a desire to continue learning. Education is a process, not a product.
I believe the single most important thing that should be learned in school is to love learning, and to desire to continue learning even beyond formal schooling.
I think that people learn when they feel that there is a purpose and need for their knowledge. Because of this I hope my students not only succeed in my classroom but also gain real skills and develop competencies that will be applicable in solving real problems in their communities and the broader world.
Overall I feel that the experience that children have in the classroom should be a reflection of what we believe to be an ideal world. One where mutual respect and caring is a given. Individuals are valued. Important skills are developed in a nurturing and safe environment. People work together and collaborate to solve problems. Where people and the environment’s best interest are the goals. And everyone’s voice is heard.
