Schools Uniting Neighborhoods, Teacher, Portland, Oregon January 2005-June 2005 Worked to build student success through enrichment courses offered after school hours. I was employed through Metropolitan Family Services and Portland Impact to develop and teach courses that meet academic benchmarks, extend the learning day and expand experiences that improve student achievement. Courses include; “Toys from Around The World”, “Wild Oregon, Pioneer Days”, "Earth Science", "Nutrition and Cooking" and “Rhythms of Poetry”
Mittlemen Jewish Community Center, Teacher, Portland, Oregon Teacher for after school program, Kidspace. Planned and implemented an eighteen-week earth science program using an integrated curriculum method. Assisted in supervising field trips to various locations. I lead active games and sports activities as well as tutored students with homework.
Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Cultural Arts Coordinator , Eugene, Oregon Supervised groups of up to 25 children ages 6-18 in recreational activities, developed and taught daily art activities. Developed “Cultural Discoveries” a program promoting cultural awareness. Lead "Torch Club" a club for children ages 11-13 aimed at building team work and increasing self- esteem. Prepared and served snack according to USDA standards. Created a positive and safe environment for children to grow and learn. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH VOLUNTEERING El Nahual Community Center, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala October 2007- December 2007 Served as a volunteer for a non-profit guatemalan run community center. The center provided educational services for low-income students. Nutrition, gardening and cooking courses for parents in the community and a free health clinic for patrons. I volunteered as an art instructor and English instructor. Classes were taught in Spanish for a mixed age and ability groups.
Cornelius Elementary School, Cornelius, Oregon September 2006-May 2007 Assisted in two way immersion classes. Taught an insect unit using GLAD materials in a first grade classroom. Assisted teacher in two third grade classes. Leading small groups, providing individual help to students and general support to the teacher. Through this experience I learned the value of a dual-language program.
Hillside Elementary School, Eugene, Oregon January 2003-March 2003 Observed, participated and lead class activities in a kindergarten classroom. Completed a ninety nine-hour Practicum study through Lane Community College.
Americorps, Bend, Oregon December 1999- August 2000 Volunteered for Cascade Middle School Photography Club. I helped develop and teach a curriculum covering the basics of photography, plan field trips, set up guest speakers and planned weekly lessons. High Desert Middle School, I supervised a group of 12 16 children, for week-long darkroom classes, developed the curriculum, produced supplies necessary for the darkroom, and taught lessons to help students understand the fundamentals of photographic processing.
